The new four room building was accepted from theĬontractors February 2, 1871. There was considerable disagreement as to where on the lot Boyd, Harriet N.īoyd and Temperance Boyd. Board members felt this prices was too high and decided to purchase twoĪcres of land (the site of the present high school) from Has. The court decided on $1,700 as just compensation for the ![]() Was chosen as the best site for the new school. The committee found the, "school inadequate and absolutely necessary toĮnlarge it our build a new school."(A description of the building is given in theīoard minutes dated March 22, 1869.) After deciding against adding to this building,the board investigated the possibility of purchasing the academy, a private school,īut also decided against this. Inġ868 a committee was appointed by the board of education to examine the school at The history of Monroe High School is closely connected to the elementary school. Township board of education made most decisions such as hiring teachers,Īppropriating money and determining text books. Each sub district elected three men to serveĪs a board of directors for the elementary school in their sub district.
